Project Management and Technical Advisor to Canada’s National Indigenous Advisory Council on Canada’s SMR Action Plan
The Indigenous Advisory Council for the Small Modular Reactor Action Plan (the Council) is an Indigenous-led initiative established to support a coordinated, national Indigenous lens to small modular nuclear reactor (SMR) policies, programs, and decisions as the SMR Action Plan develops.
The Council provides advice to the SMR Action Plan participants and Leadership Table participants pertaining to actions identified in the SMR Action Plan, as well as an Indigenous lens to how the participants can work towards the Action Plan’s vision and principles.
This includes SMR Action Plan principles of:
Strengthening diversity and representation in the nuclear industry
Exploring meaningful, long-term economic partnership opportunities with Indigenous and northern communities
Integrating SMRs with other clean energy and renewable sources and storage technologies
Minimizing waste and potentially reusing nuclear fuel
The Indigenous Advisory Council is a neutral body focused on building capacity for Indigenous people(s) to meaningfully engage, make informed decisions, and participate economically in low carbon energy alternatives such as SMRs. The Indigenous Advisory Council is focused on SMRs in the context of a transition to a low carbon energy economy; additional low carbon energy alternatives are considered in this Council’s deliberations to provide full context, information, and additional options for Indigenous Communities as they deliberate on the SMR Action Plans and decision-making processes.
